Arsenal v Manchester City - FA Cup Semi Final - KO Sunday 15:00
It's a case of who needs to win this game more: Arsene Wenger to keep his job and reach his 3rd FA Cup final in four years - or - Pep Guardiola to have a chance of silverware in his first season in charge of Manchester City in what has been a relatively underwhelming season for the Citizens.
Manchester City were expected to challenge for the title but they sit 4th in the Premier League, 11 points behind league leaders Chelsea and just four points above rivals Manchester United. Pep Guardiola's side have failed to impress in the big games in the Premier League this season, but have had a few impressive performances in the Champions League, beating Barcelona and Monaco at the Etihad.
The only real bright spark of their season has come in the FA Cup. Manchester City won away at Crystal Palace and West Ham in convincing fashion, keeping a clean sheet in both victories while netting five at West Ham and three at Selhurst Park. Pep Guardiola's side made things difficult in their ties against Huddersfield, drawing 0-0 away while going 1-0 down in the opening 10 mins in the replay before they romped home to victory, winning 5-1 at home.
They beat Middlesbrough with relative ease at the Riverside Stadium, with David Silva scoring inside three minutes to effectively put the game to bed.
To go back to the earlier question, even though Pep Guardiola needs silverware in his first season in charge at Man City, this game is far more crucial for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal.
Arsenal are 6th in the Premier League, seven points off their beloved top four spot, they bowed out to Bayern Munich 10-2 on aggregate in the Champions League and have generally looked since before the Christmas period.
The Gunners have won just seven of their last 16 league games which has put them into their precarious position and which has brought even more discontent within the fanbase, more and more people are asking for Arsene Wenger's head, not just the ArsenalFanTV lot.
Arsenal have won just four of their last 10 games in all comps, two of which came against non-league opposition in the FA Cup leading up to this semi-final against Man City. They dispatched West Ham with ease at the Emirates but made tough work of beating Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Monday. They've kept just three clean sheets in their last 10, two coming in their victories over Lincoln and Sutton United.
While this game is not as intriguing as the first semi-final between Chelsea and Tottenham, there seems to be a more clear-cut winner. Man City have lost just three of their last 18 league games, away at Everton, Chelsea and Monaco - all three sides who have been impressive on home soil this season. Pep Guardiola's side have the second best away record in the league behind Chelsea, they've failed to score in just one of their last 10 away games in all comps and have gone unbeaten in both of their league meetings against Arsenal this term. The Gunners have failed to score in just one of their last 22 games in all comps, given Man City's frail defence, we can see Arsenal testing the City back four, but Man City will progress to the FA Cup Final on May 27th.
